Its owner, Gomer Bunting, 35, estimated damages at 50 to 75 thousand dollars. The hatchery had a capacity of 168 thousand eggs. Bunting said he was operating at near capacity. The blaze was discovered by a passerby about 11 p.m. last night. Fire companies from nearby towns in Delaware and Maryland fought the flames until nearly dawn. The hatchery and a storage house were burned to the ground. A barn and Bunting's house were saved. Bunting said the loss was partly covered by insurance. There was no clue reported as to the cause of the blaze. Selbyville is in southern Delaware, just across the line from Maryland.
