- - 1946 - -CHARLES McCABE, ELLA McCABE - Victim OFFICER MURDERS WIFE THEN SELF SELBYVILLE, Del., Jan. 7. – (UP) – Police Chief Charles McCabe, 58, shot and killed his wife, Ella, 46, late today and then committed suicide by shooting himself through the head. Police listed the deaths as murder and suicide. The killings occurred after a heated argument in the couple’s bedroom. McCabe’s brother-in-law, George Walker, said he was washing his car and heard McCabe threaten to shoot his wife. Walker said he heard Mrs. McCabe say, “Go ahead, I’m ready.” Walker called police who found Mrs. McCabe dead with a revolver wound between the eyes.
