Harley Robert Taylor IVY, Va—Harley Robert (Bob, Robert, or Rob) Taylor, 68, of Ivy and formerly of Selbyville, Del succumbed too soon to pancreatic cancer at his home on a beautiful Sunday morning, April 14, 2013 Bob was the beloved husband of 44 years of Lorraine, devoted father of Jennie and Susan, adored Big Dad of Abigail, Olivia, David, Avery, Yancy, and Graham. Also surviving Bob are his sons-in-law Tom and Randy, sister-in-law Pam, his brother Peter Taylor of Bishopville and sister Doreen Tobin in Burlingame, Calif., and their families. His parents Naval Officer Harley Vernon and Virginia V. Taylor preceded him in death as did his grandparents Harley Hopkins and Rita Taylor of Selbyville He attended Selbyville High School where he played football and graduated in 1963. Following his graduation from the University of Virginia Bob joined the Army and then served as a quartermaster in the 67th Infantry. In Delaware and Virginia, he positively impacted the lives of thousands of students as a teacher, coach, and athletic director. After 15 years in education, Bob focused on translating his love of history into his business, Educational Materials Associates. For more than a decade, Bob helped others achieve their goals as a fitness specialist at the Albemarle Square Athletic Club. Bob volunteered for many years as an outreach leader, lay reader, communion assistant, vestryman, and Junior and Senior Warden at St Paul's Ivy and All Saints Anglican Churches. He was a diehard University of Virginia fan where he played rugby. Bob rooted loyally for the Dallas Cowboys, New York Yankees, and UVA football, basketball, and lacrosse. Bob loved collecting stamps and coins, drawing with pen and ink, vegetable gardening, and joking with friends. Bob would want those who will miss him to tell jokes often and laugh at them whether or not they are funny. Funeral services for Bob will be at All Saints Anglican Church in Ivy Wednesday, April 17 at 11 a.m. Please help celebrate Bob's life by wearing orange and blue.
