Joshua Everett Stevens
Obituary

Age 80, of Dagsboro, DE, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Beebe
 Medical Center in Lewes, DE.

Josh attended Selbyville School before enlisting in the US Army in March of 
1950. After completing the Airborne Battalion Infantry, he served with the 
187th Regimental Combat in Korea. In May of 1951, Josh was shot, and recovered 
at the Naval Air Force Hospital in Tokyo, Japan. He returned to Fort Mead, MD, 
where he received an Honorable Discharge, along with a Purple Heart on June 
17th, 1952. In 1953 Josh started working for Roland Scott, Inc.in Selbyville, 
working full time for 51 years, while remaining part-time until the store 
closure.

Josh was a member of the Delaware Lodge#37, a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of 
NUR Temple, Selbyville Elks Lodge, and the American Legion of Dagsboro. Josh 
joined the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company in 1953. As a lifetime member, he 
served in many offices in his years of service, and was an active Fire Police 
until his death. He received many awards for his years of service, and was 
recognized in the Delaware Fire Fighters Hall of Fame. He was the oldest active 
member of the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company.

In addition to his parents, Everett and Melissa Stevens, he was preceded in 
death by his sister, Margaret Hudson and nephew Bill Hudson. Josh is survived 
by his loving wife of 59 years, Marguerite Marvel Stevens; his son, Donald E. 
Stevens, his wife Lorie C. Stevens and grandson Kyle Stevens; his daughter 
Beverly S. Rickwood, her husband George A. Rickwood III and grandsons Chris and 
Brandon Rickwood, all of Dagsboro, DE. He is also survived by his nieces 
Barbara Hudson and her husband Clarence of Bishopville, MD; and Naomi Hudson of 
Selbyville, DE.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 28th, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at 
the Frankford chapel of Melson Funeral Services on 43 Thatcher Street, where 
friends may call after 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Dagsboro Redmens 
Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Josh's memory may be made to the New 
Building Fund of the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 128, Dagsboro, 
DE 19939.
