Long, Layfield 1948-2015 Layfield Long, 67, passed away on June 10, 2015, at the Bailey Center after a heroic battle against cancer. He was born in Selbyville, Delaware and grew up in Key West, Florida. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1970, and began his career in Key West with Bell South in radio and data communications. He retired from Bell South in 1998 in Atlanta, and moved to Key West. He went to work for the Monroe County Property Appraiser"s Office, and in 2002 joined Historic Tours of America as Chief Information Officer. In 2014 he moved to St. Augustine with HTA to oversee the transfer of HTA"s Data Center. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and diver. He was a 32nd Degree Mason. Along with wife, Janice, his faithful dog, Buffie, family and many friends he is survived by brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Peggy Jones; nephew, Dwayne Jones (Angela) and great nephew, Alex Jones; and great niece, Taylor Moore. Johnny and Peggy provided much help and comfort to him in his last weeks. A celebration of Layfield"s life will be held at a later date in Key West, Florida.
