Bette and Jim raised their family in their home above Jim's store at the corner of Dukes and Main St., Selbyville. SELBYVILLE — Bette Melson Law, 89, of Selbyville died Friday, April 8, 2011, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. For approximately 40 years, she partnered with her now-deceased husband in a private franchise, Selbyville Electric. Her career encompassed many duties, from store clerk, billing and a Western Union agent for the Selbyville area for many years. She was a member of Salem Methodist Church in Selbyville. There were many interests that brought joy to her active life, which included approximately 60 years of playing bridge. In later years, she joined a Duplicate Bridge Club and Bonco Game Group. Her creativity was reflected through her many talents from art, sewing, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, gourmet cooking, gardening, home decorating and personal style. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, James H. Law, in 1987; and her younger brother, John B. Melson III. She is survived by four daughters, Lana Rae Eashum and her husband, Caleb, of Dagsboro, Jane Adkins and her husband, Stiles, of Fenwick Island, Elizabeth Pusey and her husband, Sheldon, of Princess Anne and Kimberly Law Taylor of Selbyville; two grandchildren, Denise Shortridge and her husband, C.J., and S. Law Adkins and his wife, Amy; and a great-grandson, Preston M. Adkins. A celebration of life will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Bayside Chapel at Lighthouse Road (Route 54) in Selbyville.
