Florence S. Bixler, age 89, of Selbyville died Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Lee's Almost Home in Ocean City. She was born in Selbyville and was the daughter of the late Hugh and Florence (Mumford) Stephens. She was a homemaker and a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Selbyville, a very active member of the Selbyville Community Club, the JOBS Daughters and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by four sons, Raymond E. Bixler, John C. "Jack" Bixler III, S. Curtis Bixler and William K. Bixler all of Selbyville; three daughters, Elizabeth C. Bixler of Holliston, MA, Ellen B. Hancock of Davidsonville, MD, E. Catherine Bixler of Burnt Hills, NY; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband John C. "Jack" Bixler; three brothers, William Stephens, Hugh Stephens, Herbert Stephens; four sisters, Elizabeth Madara, Mary Rickards, Almeda Quillen, Mildred Kitchens and a granddaughter, Lori Bixler Collins. A funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, September 8 at Hastings Funeral Home in Selbyville with Rev. Dr. James Van Der Wall officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 am to 1 pm. Burial will be in Redmen's Cemetery in Selbyville.
