Whole Apple dumplings Sauce: 2 cups brown sugar 2 cups water 1/2 tsp. cinnamon or nutmeg 1/4 cup butter. Combine sugar, water, and cinnamon or nutmeg. Cook 5 minutes. Add butter and mix well. Set aside. Dumplings: 6 medium apples (pared and cored left whole) 2 cups all purpose flour 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 2/3 cup butter 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon (mixed - set aside) for cores. Mix flour, baking powder and salt together. Cut in butter. Add milk and mix, working dough lightly together. Roll dough into 6 squares. Place an apple on each square. Fill cavity in the apple with sugar and cinnamon. Wrap apple with dough. Place dumplings in baking pan. Pour sauce over dumplings. Bake at 375 for 35-40 minutes.
